J. Schmidhuber (1997)

What's interesting?

IDSIA, Lugano, Switzerland.

Relevant for: WP5 intrinsic/extrinsic motivations. Zero-sum intrinsic reward game: left brain and right brain simultaneously cooperate or compete to create policies written in a Turing-equivalent programming language (permitting hierarchies and conditional jumps etc), trying to surprise each other by creating or discovering discovering previously unknown patterns in both environment & internal storage, thus improving their knowledge about internal & external world and about what can be done in them. Abstraction as a by-product. Can help to speed up external reward intake.
